Latics set for fresh Spanish swoop

by Admin , 05 March 2010 Roberto Martinez

Roberto Martinez will reportedly step up his efforts to take Espanyol striker Jose Callejon to Wigan in the summer transfer window.

The Latics chief was linked to the 23-year-old during the January window and it is now being claimed that Martinez will go back to try and seal a deal for the player at the end of the current season.

Callejon, a Real Madrid youth team product, has confirmed that Wigan are interested in his services and, while he is happy at Espanyol, he would not completely rule out a switch to the DW Stadium.

He told Spanish newspaper 'Sport': "I know both clubs were talking about it on the final day of the transfer window, but ultimately did not reach any agreement.

"I am very happy at Espanyol. I'm very focused on this team.

"Though in the world of football, nobody knows what will happen, anything can happen."
