Hatton to call it a day

by JP Lonergan , 09 March 2010

According to reports on Tuesday, Ricky Hatton has called off his return to box on after last year's savage loss to Manny Pacquiao.

The 31-year-old, who was brutally beaten in two rounds by the Filipino ace in May of 2009, eventually came out and vowed to fight on after the defeat and was scheduled to make a return to the ring this June.

However, he has now done a U-turn according to the Sun, eventually acceding to the wishes of parents Carol and Ray.

Hatton had returned to light training in February in a bid to work himself back up to fitness for a comeback and come back only his second defeat in 47 fights.

But the former light-welterweight and welterweight world champion abandoned the training to travel to Tenerife where he has property last weekend, where he reportedly told friends that he will no longer box.

He would have been set to have to lose about four stone to make it back down to the requisite weight required to return to fighting and that also seems to have taken its toll.

He will likely now focus on his promotional business.
