Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney is fit to face AC Milan in Wednesday's decisive Champions League last 16 second leg game.
United's 28-goal star man trained on Tuesday, allaying fears that he could miss the game after he aggravated a knee injury while featuring for England against Egypt last week.
The Italian side visit Old Trafford 3-2 down to United after Rooney scored twice at the San Siro three weeks ago, and the former Everton man will now hope to play a key role in finishing them off in the second leg.
Rooney missed United's edgy 1-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday and was still a doubt for Wednesday's game as the new week began, but Tuesday;s update from Ferguson will be very welcome news to the club's fans.
United are short on options for the Milan game, with Rooney's fellow forward Michael Owen ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury. Midfielder Michael Carrick, meanwhile, is suspended and - with Anderson and Owen Hargreaves still out - Darron Gibson could be set for the biggest club game of his career should Ferguson opt to go with three central midfielders. Alternatively, Dimitar Berbatov could partner Rooney in a 4-4-2 formation.
News was not so positive on defender Wes Brown however.
Brown, another of United's England men, sustained a broken metatarsal in the win at Molineux and Ferguson has confirmed that he will be missing from action for four to six weeks.
