Preview: Lille v Liverpool

by Mark Doyle , 10 March 2010

Liverpool will be desperately hoping to bounce back with a win in France on Thursday after being roundly lambasted for Monday's humiliating Premier League defeat at Wigan.

However, the Reds may have to face Lille without influential midfielder Yossi Benayoun, who is struggling with an ankle injury suffered at the DW Stadium.

Daniel Agger, though, could feature in France. The Danish centre-half was named on the bench for the clash with Wigan but did not feature at all as he was still recovering from the affects of a virus.

However, if Agger is, as expected, cleared to play, Jamie Carragher is likely to return to right-back, thus allowing Javier Mascherano to revert to his regular holding role in midfield.

There is also the possibility, though, that under-fire manager Rafael Benitez will start the fit-again Glen Johnson at right-back after the England international played 35 minutes as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat at Wigan.

Italy international Alberto Aquilani, meanwhile, is also pushing for a recall after making an encouraging cameo apperance in the same game.

Liverpool team (from): Reina, Johnson, Degen, Agger, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Insua, Gerrard, Lucas, Aquilani, Benayoun, Riera, Ngog, Kuyt, Torres, Cavalieri, Pacheco, Spearing, Darby, Babel, Kelly.
