Harry: Lennon return still a way off

by Staff , 14 March 2010

Tottenham Hotspur manager boss Harry Redknapp says it will still be some time before winger Aaron Lennon returns to action for his side.

The right-sided England player was a huge player for Spurs earlier in the season as his form made him favourite to start out wide for his country at the World Cup. However, a groin injury picked up in December has kept him out of action since and last month he suffered a further setback.

Redknapp now says Spurs must be patient with the former Leeds United man who he says is "quite a way off" his return.

"It must be frustrating for Aaron, he's desperate to get fit," said Redknapp who says he does expect the player to be fine by the time the World Cup comes around.

"We just can't get him right. He's had a few goes and broken down.

"He's been back to the specialist. We're taking our time again, building up his strength in the groin area.

"He works every day with the physios and hopefully he will be working back outside shortly, but he's not ready to join the group again. He's quite a way off.

"I hope he's going to be okay (for the World Cup). I hope he'll play for us before the end of the season.

"He could suddenly see a bit of light and come back and if he does then he could be ready.

"Four or five weeks, we'll have to wait and see."
