Wayne Rooney scored two more goals in an improbable season as Manchester United recorded a 3-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Dimitar Berbatov put the gloss on the victory for Sir Alex Ferguson's men, who climb to the top of the Premier League as a result.
United had the first serious chance of the game after ten minutes. Darren Fletcher went marauding into the box and, just when it looked like he might take on a shot himself, he unselfishly crossed for Rooney, whose effort was brilliantly blocked by Stephen Kelly.
Berbatov should have scored from Nani's cross on 24 minutes, but blazed his header over, while Rooney saw assorted other chances fail to trouble Mark Schwarzer.
Everything changed just 30 seconds into the second half. Rooney found Nani wide on the left and, when the Portuguese crossed the ball back in the England striker was on hand to score his 31st goal of the campaign.
Bobby Zamora should have equalised when he got clear of the United defence and appeared to only have Edwin van der Sar to beat. However, Nemanja Vidic recovered as Zamora stalled and got the necessary block in.
Rooney's second came seven minutes from time, following good work and a precision cross from Berbatov, while the Bulgarian himself got the goal his overall play deserved by heading in Ji-Sung Park's brilliant cross just before full-time.
