Harry backs striker claims

by Admin , 15 March 2010 football news

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says Peter Crouch has to go to the World Cup as he continues to shine for club and country.

Crouch took his goals tally for England to 20 in 37 games when he came off the bench to bag a brace in the recent friendly against Egypt and many supporters feel Crouch should get a starting place.

Redknapp is also backing his striker's claims and believes both he and Jermain Defoe will go to South Africa.

"Crouch has to go to the World Cup," Redknapp revealed. "He seems to score every time he plays for England, he leads the line well, holds the ball up and wins every header.

"He gives you something completely different when games are tight.

"You can play long balls to him, he will win headers and (help) other players to get around the second ball and open packed defences.

"I think both he and (Spurs team-mate) Jermain Defoe will go to the World Cup."
