Hurney walks away from hurling

by GAA Staff , 15 March 2010

Waterford’s Gary Hurney has withdrawn from the county’s hurling panel and looks set to now concentrate on football.

The dual player played in the Deise’s recent National Hurling League Division 1 defeat to Galway and football manger John Owens had been expected to have to do without him for all of 2010.

But Hurney has now revised his plans and after drifting between both codes since 2008 has decided to drop out of the hurling frame.

The Waterford hurlers have won two of their opening three NHL games against Dublin and Limerick, while the footballers are level on points at the top of Division 4 with Wicklow and Clare.

Fellow dual player Stephen Walsh looks set to remain with the hurlers, however.
