Wilson relaxing before Masters take two

by JP Lonergan , 16 March 2010

Oliver Wilson is looking to work much harder at earning success in this year’s Masters after a disappointing debut in 2009.

The English player used to go to college in Augusta and says he spent too much time ahead of the first major of last year reminiscing over good times when he should have been focused on his game, a mistake he is adamant will not happen again.

Wilson is not in action again until next month’s Masters and says he will be well rested for the event, saying in the Nottingham Evening Post: "I went to college in Augusta and when I went back I was here, there and everywhere catching up with old friends.

"That was the wrong way to prepare for the Masters. Concentration plays a huge part in that tournament and by the time I teed off, I was mentally tired."

The player could certainly do with some thinking time after a very poor showing in his last event before the Masters, the WGC-CA Championship at the Doral Golf Resort, where he finished second last after the final day, despite a closing 67 to lift his spirits.

"It was carefree golf at its absolute best," he added. "My short game has been pathetic this week and I just hit a lot more greens.

"Embarrassed is not too strong a word. It was just one of those weeks. I got sidetracked working on things that are already good.

"It was not what I expected when the week started. But I'm going to a have good break now and, hopefully, I will get back on track."
