England drop Wilkinson

by setantasports.com staff , 17 March 2010

England coach Martin Johnson has dropped Jonny Wilkinson from the team to face France in the RBS Six Nations on Saturday.

Toby Flood will start at fly-half against the Grand Slam-chasing French, with Wilkinson dropped for only the third time in his 12-year international career, as Johnson makes six changes to the side which drew 15-15 with Scotland.

Wilkinson got hit on the head at Murrayfield and had to leave the field, but the England doctors had declared him fit and he is named on the bench for the Stade de France game.

Wilkinson was dropped from the England team at the 1999 World Cup when Paul Grayson came in for him, and replaced by Danny Cipriani in the 2008 Six Nations.

Flood joins a back-line that includes Ben Foden, debutant winger Chris Ashton and Mike Tindall.

Ashton will make his Test debut on the wing in place of Ugo Monye, who damaged his neck at Murrayfield.

Tindall returns to the England team in place of Mathew Tait at outside centre after four months out with a hamstring injury.

James Haskell goes to the bench with Lewis Moody back in the starting XV at openside flanker with Joe Worsley moving to blindside.

Simon Shaw returns to the second row from Louis Deacon after missing the Scotland game through injury, whilst Delon Armitage has dropped out of the squad altogether.
