Former skipper eyes an upset

by Admin , 18 March 2010 SPL Generic

Former St Mirren captain Barry McLaughlin insists that the Buddies have nothing to fear when they take on Rangers on Sunday.

The Saints will go into the Co-operative Insurance Cup final as underdogs as they lie just one place off the bottom in the SPL table, while Rangers lead the league by a huge 13 points.

Although McLaughlin admits that it will be a tough game for his former side, he insists that the Buddies are capable of causing a shock.

"As good a team as it is, it won't be as big an upset for me if St Mirren win the cup," McLaughlin said.

"Obviously it's going to be tough, but there is a lot of experience in the team. "

(Madjid) Bougherra is a big loss for Rangers even though Danny Wilson is a good player and will probably go on to be an exceptional player for Rangers and hopefully Scotland.

"But the St Mirren players have nothing to fear."
