McGinley to take break

by setantasports.com staff , 18 March 2010

Tony Donnelly has said that Enda McGinley is taking a break from the Tyrone panel in order to rest a series of injuries.

The Tyrone assistant manager went on to say that reports that McGinley had quit the squad were wide of the mark.

McGinley will not be involved in the county's remaining three NFL games, against Galway, Kerry and Dublin, but will return ahead of the Ulster Championship opener against Antrim on 23 May.

"It's only a temporary thing. He has had a few niggling injuries, and he was contemplating maybe missing out on the first part of the league," said Donnelly.

"But they haven't cleared up, and it has affected his form and his ability to perform. So it's just a few weeks stepping back from it."

The 29-year-old triple All-Ireland winner has a series of minor injuries that need resting, as well as a quad problem.

"There's none of them long-term or serious, but even at the McKenna Cup we were talking long and hard about it, and we thought he might miss out on the McKenna Cup.

"However, he felt alright and thought he could go again, but these niggles came back to him," continued Donnelly.
