No action over striker

by Admin , 18 March 2010 Wolverhampton Generic

Wolves will not take any disciplinary action against Stefan Maierhofer over his reported outburst as they feel it was made up.

The striker who has gone on loan to Bristol City was quoted in a national newspaper questioning why he wasn't getting picked and claiming Mick McCarthy was taking the p*** out of him.

Wolves have investigated the matter and do not believe the quotes attributed to the Austrian are genuine although they will continue to monitor the situation.

Chief executive Jez Moxey told the Express and Star: "Of course we have spoken to Stefan and his agent, we have seen a basis of an interview he gave abroad and translated that, but can't find anything that actually corroborates what is being reported. "

We have spoken to all sorts of people and we can't see where anyone has said this.

"Bristol City's people have given us information about the comments Stefan made and nothing was said in that regard, so it seems like someone has taken a liberty in the extreme. "

But we will continue to look into it but as far as we are concerned, this sort of thing would be dealt with internally and we will not be making any further comment about it.

"All we are interested in is preparing for is Saturday's game against Villa."
