Rusedksi in line for GB Davis Cup job

by Admin , 18 March 2010

Former British number one Greg Rusedski is being linked to the Great Britain Davis Cup captaincy following John Lloyd's resignation.

Rusedski, who is now the Lawn Tennis Association's talent and performance ambassador, is thought to be the leading contender for the post after 55-year-old Lloyd stepped down following the humiliating defeat by Lithuania.

Lloyd, who lost the last five of his eight ties in charge to leave Britain facing a play-off with Turkey in July to avoid relegation to the lowest tier of the competition, was happy with his work during almost four years as captain.

"I am very proud of my time as Davis Cup captain and grateful to all the players for their support," said Lloyd.

"I've been a Davis Cup player, captain and now it is time to become a fan."

British number one and world number four Andy Murray recently asked the LTA to consult the players before appointing the next captain.

"It's important the players have some say," he told BBC Radio 5 live.

"But there's no rush, there's not another match for four months. It's important they take their time and get the right person - and I'm sure they will."
