Harrington takes Transitions lead

by Admin , 20 March 2010 Golf Generic

Padraig Harrington fired an impressive six-under-par 65 to take a one shot lead at the halfway stage of the Transitions Championship.

The Irishman shot seven birdies as he recorded his lowest round of the year at the Innisbrook Hilton Resort in Florida to lead Carl Petterson, Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson and Retief Goosen.

The former Open and USPGA champion, who started the day four behind American Garrett Willis after his opening round of 69, could have enhanced his lead over the field had he not bogeyed his third-last hole at the sixth.

Following his round, Harrington claimed the fact he is not too familiar with the course had helped his game.

"Because I don't know so many of the shots I have to keep hitting at the flags and it seems to be working quite nicely," he said.

"The greens are superb and the wind was predictable, so it was a good morning for scoring. "

I'm capable of winning in the form I'm in.

Am I in my best form? No.

Am I getting there? Yes."

English duo Ross Fisher and Luke Donald are four-under and three-under respectively, with Scot Martin Laird one further back.
