Andy Murray has crashed out of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells following a quarter-final defeat against Robin Soderling.
Britain's number one lost out 6-1 7-6 (7-4) in one hour and 34 minutes to the sixth-seeded Swede, despite forcing four break points in the opening game.
However, Murray missed the chance as he was punished for his own disappointing serve, before he was broken twice with Soderling racing into a 5-0 lead in the first set.
The Scot did pull a game back before Soderling wrapped up the set.
Murray rallied in the second set and saved a match point to force a tie-break, but Soderling sealed the win when his opponent hit into the net on his fourth match point.
"He played very well to start with and I didn't," Murray said. "I didn't move particularly well."
Soderling will now face Andy Roddick for a place in the final following the American's victory over Tommy Robredo.
Defending champion Rafael Nadal faces Ivan Ljubicic in the other semi-final.
