Time to get mean - Maguire

by Admin , 22 April 2010

Kilmarnock forward Chris Maguire believes the club's players are 'too nice' and need to get ruthless in their relegation battle.

The 21-year-old scored the winner against Celtic on Robbie Keane's debut for the Glasgow giants, and had hoped that would be the kickstart of a run up the table.

However it was not to be and Killie are now just one point above bottom-side Falkirk and travel to St Mirren Park on Saturday to take on another relegation rival in what is a massive clash.

Maguire, on loan from Aberdeen, believes it is time for Killie to develop a 'mean streak' and do what is ever necessary to keep the club in the SPL.

He said: "We're down to the nitty-gritty stuff and I didn't think we'd be in this position after that win over Celtic.

"The team went on a run immediately after that but it didn't last.

"What's happened since then is proof you can take nothing for granted.

"Sometimes I think we're too nice as a team. We need to get our sleeves rolled up and develop a mean streak.

"It's time to do everything possible to get Kilmarnock out of the situation they're in."
