Hodgson has final concern

by setanta.com staff , 09 May 2010

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson believes Uefa should consider postponing Wednesday’s Europa League final between his side and Atletico Madrid.

The Cottagers manager, whose side lost their last Premier League game of the season 4-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday, feels the doubt that the volcanic ash cloud puts on travel plans is enough of a concern to warrant a rethink of the date for the Hamburg final.

Fulham are currently set to fly to Hamburg on Tuesday but Hodgson admits that the volcano fall-out could change their plans, that after they already had to travel to Germany once before by coach to play Hamburg away in the semi-finals.

"We can't get out much earlier," Hodgson told Sky Sports. "It's Sunday evening now and I don't think we'll be able to get a flight between now and the end of the evening.

"We're training in the morning, so we've only got between the afternoon and evening to organise and organising flights for 40 people is not such an easy thing to do.

"Obviously it's a situation which our administrative people are keeping an eye on, but we certainly aren't going to gain very much because if we leave tomorrow evening or Tuesday morning early, we're not gaining a great deal.

"I don't know if there is going to be an enormous difference between the ash cloud on Monday evening and on Tuesday morning.

"Whatever decision needs to be taken, we need to take the right one, we need to have good information and we'll see what happens."

Any postponement may actually suit Fulham, who have considerable injury concerns over star men Damien Duff and Bobby Zanora ahead of the final.
