Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies has again admitted he wants to sign Aston Villa defender Nicky Shorey.
Shorey shone at the City Ground last season on loan and Davies is keen to recruit him on a permanent basis for the new Cahmpionship season.
"If Nicky Shorey does not get a Premier Division club and there is a possibility that we can do something; if there is a possibility that he could still become available, either on loan or permanently - then until that door closes on us, he remains an option," he told the Nottingham Evening Post.
"He is one of several players that I have recommended for that position."
Forest would also like to improve their attack but, since a bid for Sheffield Wednesday's Jermaine Johnson was rejected. Cardiff's Peter Whittingham is reported to now be top of their attacking priority list, with the winger scoring 25 goals in 50 starts last season.
But, Shorey apart, the Scot is keeping quiet about any potential signings.
"If we want the play-offs, we need three to five stellar signings," he added. "It would be unfair for me to discuss players on that wish list.
"We should be signing players up and then discussing them."
