McGeady exclusion hints at transfer

by setanta.com staff , 28 July 2010

Aiden McGeady's future was again called into question on Wednesday evening when he was omitted from Celtic's squad for the Champions League game away to Braga.

The Republic of Ireland winger was not in the matchday 18 for the third qualifying round first leg game in Portugal, fuelling further speculation that he is set to leave the Scottish side for pastures new.

McGeady has been strongly linked with a move to Spartak Moscow, with a reported £10 million bid on the table from the Russians, while Aston Villa have also supposedly expressed an interest.

McGeady was named as part of the travelling squad for the game this week with Lennon having said that he would likely play him unless told not to by the club's hierarchy should they want him to remain free from being cup-tied.

His exclusion on Wednesday only adds flames to the fire of the transfer speculation that has surrounded him for some months, though it should also be remembered that he had only just recovered from a thigh injury.
