Dan Shanahan has confirmed he will retire from inter-county hurling once Waterford's interest in this year's championship comes to an end.
Shanahan has had to make do with life on the bench for the last two seasons, but he proved he still has what it takes by scoring the match-winning goal in the Munster final replay against Cork.
He does not know whether he will be picked to face Tipperary in the All-Ireland SHC semi-final in two weeks, but the 2007 Hurler of the Year will do whatever he can to ensure Waterford reach the final on the first Sunday in September.
"To get to another final would be good. If we get there who knows what could happen," Shanahan explained.
"To games Munster champions, it’s two more games All-Ireland champions, that's the way we've looked at it.
"That will probably be my last Munster final. It's great to finish off like that.
"It gets harder and harder to come back, it's a young man's game. It will be something else next year.
"It was probably was my last Munster final."
Shanahan is hoping his performance against Cork will persuade manager Davy Fitzgerald to select him for the Tipperary clash, insisting he still has the ability to play a full 70 minutes.
"If I have anything to offer, which I still have, I will help Waterford," he told The Sun.
"Personally I think there is 70 minutes in me, depending on what position Davy would play me now.
"I do think I have a lot of training done this year, on and off the field.
"But he's the manager, he makes the decisions. If I'm coming on as a substitute it will do me grand.
"It's not about me, it's about us. If you can contribute that will do me grand."
