Mulcahy focusing on Saints

by Setanta Staff , 08 October 2010

Dave Mulcahy insists St Patrick's Athletic are focused on finishing third in the Airtricity League and are not interested in helping either title contenders.

St Pat's face Bohemians on Saturday knowing a victory would go some way to helping Shamrock Rovers win the league, but Mulcahy is not concerned by the title race, he is only interested in securing European football for the Saints.

"I have always treated Bohs as the strongest team in the league," he is quoted as saying in the Irish Daily Mirror. "They're the most experienced and at the moment they've got real momentum behind them and are putting Rovers under savage pressure.

"If we beat them we might be handing the title to Rovers but we'll just be focusing on that third place finish."

As well as fighting for third, St Pat's are still in the running for the FAI Cup with a semi-final against Shamrock Rovers on the horizon.

Mulcahy has been delighted with how the season has gone but he knows that it will be deemed a failure if the Saints do not achieve one of their goals.

"They're absolutely two massive games for the club. It's just a pity we're not closer to the top two and in the title hunt ourselves," he added.

"When you look at where we were a few weeks ago to where we are now it just shows how quickly things change in football.

"It's been a great season but it won't count for much if we don't end up with something at the end of it.

"We have to keep the head down, stay positive and claim third and win the Cup."
