Interesting draw for Setanta Sports Cup

by Setanta Staff , 14 December 2010

Dundalk and Linfield have been drawn to face each other in the revamped Setanta Sports Cup.

The draw for the 2011 competition took place in the Belfast City Hall on Monday and it threw up a number of very interesting ties.

In a change to previous years, the competition has been expanded to include 12 sides and will no longer feature two groups. Instead it will be run as a knockout competition when it gets underway in February with seeded teams Shamrock Rovers, Sligo Rovers, Crusaders and Glentoran receiving a bye through to the quarter-finals.

Dundalk have been drawn against Linfield, while Sporting Fingal will take on Lisburn Distillery, St Patrick's Athletic will face Cliftonville and Bohemians will meet Portadown.

The first leg will take place on February 14 and 21 with the return legs scheduled for February 28 and March 1.
