Glass half full for Del Neri

by Admin , 29 January 2011

Juventus manager Luigi Del Neri has not written off his side's chances of winning the Serie A title this season.

The Old Lady are currently sixth in the Italian top-flight standings and are nine points behind table-topping AC Milan having played 21 games so far this term.

The Scudetto is all they have to play for now after crashing out of the Europa League and Coppa Italia, but a nine-point gap appears almost impossible to close with Milan currently in decent form.

But the much-travelled tactician refuses to be downbeat about the club's chances and feels that they could still emerge from the season with credit.

"From the outside, people see the glass half-empty," he said. "From the inside, we consider it to be half-full.

"It's not true that we are out of the running for everything. In the League we're still on track for our planned objectives, which is to remain close to the leading group ahead of the final sprint for a Champions League spot."

The 27-time Serie A champions play in-form Udinese this weekend and Del Neri feels that his charges have not received the recognition for what they have achieved in the current campaign.

"Juve deserve respect for what they are doing," he added.

"If the teams just above us are considered to be in great shape, then why should Juventus be described as in free-fall?"
