Attendance grim for lower league finals

by Setanta staff , 24 April 2011

An attendance of just a little over 8,000 turned out for Saturday’s league finals at Croke Park.

Many had questioned the call to play the Allianz Football League Division Three final between Louth and Westmeath and the preceding Division Four clash of Roscommon and Longford at GAA headquarters, but ahead they went with very small numbers coming to watch.

The recorded turnout was 8,130 spectators, with it decided to not open up either the Cusack or Davin Stands, along with the already closed Hill 16.

Indeed, more people were present for the Division Four game, with it estimated that there were only around 5,000 fans in situ for the Division Three clash, which Louth won by 1-15 to 0-13.

Longford had earlier beaten the Rossies by 2-11 to 0-8.

Dublin play Cork in Sunday’s Division One decider, a game that will preceded by the Division Two final between Donegal and Laois.
