Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Cristiano Ronaldo is unlikely to return to Manchester United.
Ronaldo left Old Trafford for a world record £80million in 2009 for Real Madrid, but Los Merengues are likely to finish runners-up to Barcelona in La Liga and miss out on next month's Champions League final at Wembley after their 2-0 home semi-final first-leg defeat to the same opponents.
Despite Ronaldo's failure to build significantly on his medal collection in Madrid, Ferguson feels that it is unlikely that the Portugal international would return to the North West.
"It would be very difficult," said Ferguson.
"He had a great time here but he is at a great club now too."
"I spoke to him after the game (on Wednesday against Barcelona)," continued the United boss.
"He had a great time here, we got six years out of him. We got him as a kid and he went to Madrid a man.
"He is enjoying being there and though he might not have been at his best on Wednesday, he is still a great player."
