Seagulls keen on Toon starlet

by Setanta Staff , 02 May 2011

Brighton manager Gus Poyet says he is keen to bring Newcastle forward Kazenga LuaLua back to the south coast for next season.

The 20-year-old scored four goals in 11 appearances during a loan spell with the Seagulls that was cut short when he broke his ankle in a game against Hartlepool in November.

Having only just returned to training two weeks ago Alan Pardew hasn't had time to weigh up whether he can use the striker in his plans for next season.

While Pardew weighs up his options, Poyet has laid his cards on the table by insisting he would be very interested in having LuaLua back for next season's Championship campaign.

"He gives us something very, very special that we don't have but it's not in our hands. It depends first on Newcastle and the system we need to set up to get the right players," Poyet told the Argus.

"You don't just buy the first one that is available, you need to make sure you get the most important one first.

"I don't know what Newcastle are going to do next year, which players they are going to sign, if they are going to use that £35 million (received from Liverpool for Andy Carroll) Pardew is talking about or not.

"Maybe he will get a player in that position and we've got a chance. If he cannot use the £35 million then he will need to use LuaLua."
