Barcelona win La Liga

by Tony Cuddihy , 11 May 2011

Barcelona have secured the point they needed to claim their third straight La Liga title on Wednesday night.

Seydou Keita put Pep Guardiola's side in the lead against Levante on 28 minutes to spark scenes of wild celebrations.

The Catalan club did concede an equaliser to former Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo but the draw was enough to wrap up the league.

"Winning the league was been extremely tough and we are very pleased," Guardiola said.

"We have been tremendous for three quarters of the season but in the last quarter we have struggled to score goals.

"If we have experienced a dip in form towards the end of the season, it is because of the inhuman schedule over the last two years. We have barely stopped."

Lionel Messi added: "I'm delighted because it has been a very difficult title to win.

"We've had to work very hard to be champions and more so against a great rival like Real Madrid. Now we have to enjoy it."

There were joyous scenes at the final whistle as the team celebrated their league success and Barcelona will now turn their attention to the Champions League final against Manchester United at Wembley on May 28th.
