Allardyce up for Hammers test

by Michelle Fortune , 01 June 2011

Sam Allardyce is looking forward to the challenge of guiding the Hammers back to the Premier League.

Avram Grant was given his marching orders following West Ham's relegation to the Championship and shortly before his appointment Allardyce spoke out about the challenge he faces at Upton Park.

"I look forward to taking charge after I have had a family holiday," Allardyce is quoted as saying in The Sun.

"It's always difficult dealing with the aftermath of relegation but I want to get West Ham back into the Premier League as quickly as possible."

Allardyce has been out of management since he was sacked by Blackburn in December but is believed to have agreed a two-year deal with West Ham, which includes a sizeable bonus if he guides the club back to the Premier League.

A number of players are expected to leave West Ham following their relegation but Allardyce has been assured by co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan that he is under no pressure to sell any of the squad.
