The chief of Britain's Olympic Association is highly confident of entering a British football team at London 2012.
The football associations of Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland have all voiced their opposition to the idea of fielding a British football squad at the Games, but they cannot legally prevent players from choosing to represent such a team.
Nevertheless, the opposition has caused doubts over whether a British team would indeed be entered.
However, the British Olympic Association's (BOA) chief executive, Andy Hunt, has insisted that he is "incredibly positive" concerning the prospect of the involvement of a team comprising of players from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in both the women’s and men’s events.
According to BBC Sport, he said to Inside the Games that there were merely "some final things to resolve."
Hunt also cautioned that a team comprising exclusively of English players could be in breach of International Olympic Committee rules on discrimination.
