Sligo football manager Kevin Walsh will be forced into making several changes throughout his squad ahead of this weekend’s All-Ireland qualifier against Wicklow.
Walsh has lost three players that started their Connacht Championship game to Leitrim, with two of those losses due to suspended players.
Brian Curran received a straight red card and an eight week ban for a stamping incident during Sligo’s last game against Leitrim, which was unsuccessfully appealed.
Half-forward Alan Costello also picked up a surprise one match suspension from the same game following something he said to referee Joe Curley after the final whistle.
Starting full-forward from the Leitrim game, Kenneth Sweeney, has also been ruled out as he has travelled to London for the summer.
Sean Davey will miss this weekend’s game as he is on crutches following surgery on a long term Achilles injury, while forward David Kelly hasn’t even been able to return to club football due to a persistent ankle problem.
There are a few silver linings for Walsh however. Long time absentee Johnny Davey is set to return after recovering from a torn cruciate injury, while Mark Breheny is also expected to start after he came off the bench in the game against Leitrim after recovering from a hamstring problem.
Another long term absentee, Colm McGee, has also returned to club football and county training.
