Allegri dismisses Fabregas link

by Setanta Staff , 24 June 2011

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri is eyeing a new midfielder during the summer but will not move for Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas.

The Rossoneri claimed the Serie A title last season but are refusing to rest on their laurels and are actively recruiting during the off-season.

The midfield was one area that the coach admitted needed strengthening as they look to defend the title next term and make a splash in the Champions League.

Fabregas has long been linked with a move to Barcelona and reports suggest that the Catalans have already tabled a large bid for the Spanish international schemer this summer.

Milan were also thought to be interested in acquiring his services, if Arsenal decided to sell, but it seems unlikely that a player who appears to have his heart set on a return to the Nou camp would look to move to Italy.

Allegri admits that he is after a midfielder but is not even contemplating a move for the Gunners star.

"Having lost Andrea Pirlo, Milan need a player of important technical qualities," he told he told Sky Sport Italia. "We've not just discovered Fabregas this morning. There are two months of the market left and Adriano Galliani knows perfectly what this side is missing.

"If a player arrives then he will have an important value and will certainly be at Milan's level.

"Fabregas is not even a dream because we have never thought about him. There is zero possibility of seeing him at Milan."
