Cavan footballer Michael Brennan may be hanging up his inter-county football boots following his county’s disappointing defeat to Longford in the preliminary rounds of the All-Ireland Championship.
Cavan were beaten a comfortable 2-16 to 0-11 at home by their neighbours and Brennan believes that the defeat was all down to Cavan being unable to take their chances as well as Longford did.
“We had goal chances and from the goal chances, they went down and got scores. We weren't killing the ball and we got two men sent off, which didn't help,” Brennan told The Anglo-Celt.
“Soul-destroying is one way of putting it. It's heart-wrenching to be honest with you, to put in so much effort. And to be honest with you, it could be my last time in a Cavan jersey which is even harder to take.”
Brennan is currently serving his second stint with the county footballers after rejoining the panel last season under Tommy Carr, is currently debating whether he should remain with the squad for next season.
“We have to take stock,” added Brennan.
“From the two games we played, it's obvious that we're not good enough at the minute. There's a lot of work that needs to be done so it's back to the drawing board.”
