Former Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard has been confirmed as the new coach of the Saudi Arabia national team.
The 48-year-old Dutchman, who has been out of work since leaving Turkish club Galatasaray in October last year, has signed a three-year deal to manage the Green Falcons.
He said: "We have our goals. We hope this will be the kick-off of a very successful period.
"As every journey, you start with the first step. That's what we made today. From now on, we will be planning."
Rijkaard has experience of international management, leading his home country to the semi-finals of Euro 2000 but he will have little time to settle in.
Saudi Arabia play Kuwait in a friendly next week and they play their first qualifier for the 2014 World Cup, against Hong Kong, at the end of the month.
The Saudi federation have also had little patience with managers in recent times, with Rijkaard becoming the 34th manager of the national side in the last 25 years.
