Longford goalkeeper Damien Sheridan is playing down any advantage his team might have this Saturday in their All-Ireland Championship preliminary round against Tyrone just because they are playing at home.
Longford have had an impressive championship home record over the past five years, with Derry and Mayo both falling to Longford in previous Championship encounters.
However, Sheridan does not believe that this record will strike too much fear in the heart of the 2008 All-Ireland champions and insists that it will be down the Longford to perform on the day.
“The fans can’t come across the white line,” said Sheridan.
“It all comes down to us at the end of the day, put the ball over the bar, keep it out of the net, whatever it is. But one thing is certain, we’ve got to do that ourselves.
“It’s great to have the support of the fans and of course they’ll try and drive you on any way they can, but it’s the 15 fellas that start and the five that come on that have to do it.
“It’s hardly two hours of a drive down the road for them and it’s far better for them than travelling down to the bottom of the country or somewhere like that,” added Sheridan.
“Compared to some of the other stuff they’ve encountered over the years in All-Ireland finals and Ulster finals I don’t think it’s going to bother them much.”
