Leicester Tigers have snapped up Australian flanker Julian Salvi on a short-term deal to cover for the injured Craig Newby.
The 25-year-old has just finished the Super 15 season, notching up his 50th appearance for the Brumbies as he looks to try and break into the Australia squad.
Having missed out on the Tri-Nations, Salvi has now taken up the option to move to Welford Road rather than the Rec having spent time with Bath last season.
The Tigers are short of flankers after Newby injured his knee, ruling him out for up to five months.
With Leicester set to be stretched to the limit during the World Cup, director of rugby Richard Cockerill is happy to have brought in a player of Salvi's quality.
"We're delighted that Julian has agreed to join us. He enjoyed a very good season in England a couple of years ago and has been a major performer in Australia too," said Cockerill.
"Losing a player of Craig Newby's influence and experience is a blow to the squad, especially during a World Cup year when we are likely to be without a number of senior players.
"But we see Julian as a very good addition to the squad. He will join us by the end of July and his previous experience in this country should allow him to fit in pretty quickly."
