England in control at Edgbaston

by Setanta Staff , 10 August 2011

England dominated the opening day of the third test against India at Edgbaston.

Visiting captain Mahendra Dhoni scored 77 to save India from an entirely embarrassing total, as the tourists finished on 224 all out, having been 111-7 at one stage.

Tim Bresnan and Stuart Broad took four wickets apiece as the Indian order crumbled, after the visitors had lost the toss and been put in to bat.

England made their way to 84 without the loss of a wicket at stumps on day one, with Andrew Strauss, who had caught Dhoni, scoring 52 and Alastair Cook putting on 27.

The hosts, looking set to displace India at the top of the world Test rankings, lead the four-match series 4-0 after convicing wins at Lord's and Trent Bridge.
