England move towards victory

by dave_maher , 21 August 2011

England moved closer to victory in the fourth Test against India on Sunday, as the hosts continued to chase a win that would secure a 4-0 whitewash series triumph over the tourists.

Rahul Dravid offered some strong resistance on the fourth day of the latest Test to keep his side's hopes of salavaging something from the series alive, but England will remain confident of securing another victory.

India started Sunday's play on 103-5 and it was mostly left to Dravid to frustrate the English advance, as he hit an unbeaten 146, with India eventually reaching 300 all out for their first innings.

England asked for the follow-on at The Oval, forcing the tourists to bat for the entire day, and Dravid was caught at short leg off the bowling of Graeme Swann.

Virender Sehwag was then bowled by Swann, before James Anderson struck VVS Laxman's off stump.

Sachin Tendulkar showed some good form to reach 35 not out as the day's play came to an end with India on 129-3, 162 runs behind the home side.
