Allen early Treaty frontrunner

by Oli Skehan , 01 October 2011

John Allen replaced Donal O'Grady as Cork hurling boss six years ago and he is the early frontrunner to replace him again - this time in Limerick.

Allen has not been involved in inter-county management since he stepped down as Rebel chief but is now reportedly keen to make a return.

However, the St Finbarr's clubman faces stiff competition from former Treaty players TJ Ryan and Ciaran Carey.

That duo were selectors under O'Grady this year and are said to be interested in the post but Allen was popular with the Cork players during his time involved with them and that experience make him an early favourite.

Just one candidate has been spoken to so far but the feeling is the committee will make up its mind fairly quickly in order to allow O'Grady's successor to get the players together before the GAA's close season kicks in at the end of next month.
