Naismith and Jelavic seal win for Gers

by Tony Cuddihy , 23 October 2011

Steven Naismith and Nikica Jelavic secured an easy win for Rangers over Hearts, as Ally McCoist's side strengthened their hold on top spot in the SPL.

The opening goal came after 20 minutes, Maurice Edu feeding Steven Whittaker just inside the Rangers half. The defender powered forward and found the run of Naismith, who escaped his marker and fired past Marion Kello.

Edu could have made it 2-0 when Carlos Bocanegra's deflected shot fell to him, but he shot over Kello's crossbar.

Ian Black and Ryan Stevenson had chances to bring Hearts back into it.

In the second half, David Templeton danced around Doran Goian on the left channel before crossing the ball in to Mrowiec, who lacked composure as his left footed shot went wide of the target from five yards.

That was Hearts' best chance and the match was ended 15 minutes from time when Jelavic volleyed impressively past Kello from Bocanegra's long ball.
