McNamee will be back - Cooney

by Oli Skehan , 12 November 2011

New Offaly football manager Gerry Cooney is confident that Niall McNamee will change his mind and return to the Faithful fold.

The Rhode star suprisingly quit the inter-county panel citing frustration and annoyance at the length of time that it took to find a replacement for former manager Tom Cribbin.

"All the players are available and everybody knows how important Niall McNamee is to Offaly football so there's no doubt in my mind whatsoever where his interest lies," Cooney is quoted as saying in the Irish Daily Mirror.

"He's carrying a bit of an injury at the moment and when he gets over that he'll be back pushing for a place like everybody else. I've spoken to all the players and it would be my intention to get the best players in Offaly available and I don't expect any problems in that regard."
