Pacquiao backs judges' decision

by Setanta Staff , 13 November 2011

Manny Pacquiao believes the judges got it right when he was given a points-decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night.

It was the third match-up between the pair following a draw and a narrow Pacquiao win in the two previous encounters, with Marquez of the opinion that he should have won them both.

The third bout was supposed to end all doubt but the result may well have set up a fourth fight in the future.

Both fighters adopted the victory pose at the bell of the 12th and final round but to the anger of Marquez, the judges gave the decision to the man regarded as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

Robert Hoyle could not split the pair, scoring it 114-114, but Dave Moretti (115-113) and Glenn Trowbridge (116-112) had it in the Pac-Man's favour, much to the disgust of the majority of the crowd in Las Vegas, and Marquez, who stormed out of the ring.

Pacquiao told Primetime afterwards: "It's very clear that I won the fight.

"Marquez is a good fighter and he's a good counter-puncher. He hurt me a couple of times but I was very careful because he was waiting for my advances to counter them."
