Moran on the mend

Mayo’s All Star forward Andy Moran should be fit to play before the Allianz Football League gets underway.

Moran was unfortunate enough to break a leg when trialling for Ireland’s ultimately successful International Rule side in September. He suffered the blow at Dublin’s Parnell Park and missed the two-game series, but his county manager James Horan says he is now very much on the mend.

"The injury was doubly unfortunate for Andy as he was unable to get on the plane for the matches against Australia," Horan was quoted as saying in the Irish Daily Star.

"But he's making an excellent recovery from his broken leg and he's doing everything according to the letter of the law.

"His leg was put in a cast, but he didn't need an operation, and we'd be hopeful that he'll be back for the latter stages of the FBD League (Connacht’s season-opening football competition) in January."

Moran starred in Mayo’s renaissance from being taken to extra-time by London in their Connacht opener to downing then All-Ireland champions Cork in the All-Ireland quarter-final at the end of July. They ultimately lost the semi-final to old foes Kerry, but will ready to go again in the New Year and their chances will only be aided by a fully fit Moran.
