Tullamore venue to avoid big changes

by Setanta staff , 02 December 2011

Tullamore’s O'Connor Park will retain its capacity of 20,000 with the minimum of fuss.

On the back of the Slattery Report, several GAA grounds nationwide will need to undertake heavy redevelopment work in the coming months to keep their attendances at their maximum. However, it has been confirmed that the Offaly venue will only need minimal alterations to allow it to maximise its full potential.

It will still have to be reduced to 17,500 while the small changes are made but that is unlikely to affect attendances in the short term, with a full capacity set to be back available come the championship.

The necessary work will be done over the winter and spring as new exits are installed from the terrace onto the pitch. Among the other alterations needed, with regard to safety, is the removal of the drop on the way into the old dressing room.
