Ancelotti named PSG boss

by Kieran O'Daly , 30 December 2011

Carlo Ancelotti has been confirmed as the new coach of Paris St Germain, marking a return to the touchline for the Italian for the first time since he was sacked by Chelsea in May.

The news was announced on Friday at a press conference held at the Parc des Princes. It comes after incumbent manager Antoine Kombouare left the post earlier in the day.

Ancelotti has signed a two-and-a-half year deal and will be assisted by Claude Makele.

The rumour mill went into overdrive earlier this week after Ancelotti was snapped meeting PSG sporting director Leonardo in the French capital on Wednesday.

Ex-manager Kombouare was constantly under pressure, despite leading PSG to the top of the Ligue 1 table at the winter break. However, a premature group stage Europa League exit did not sit well with the club's ambitious new Qatari owners.

The 52-year-old Ancelotti won a league and cup double with Chelsea in his first season in charge but, despite finishing second, he was sacked at the end of last season.

The Italian was also a two-time Champions League winner during a decade-long spell at AC Milan.
