Nikica Jelavic struck a hat-trick as Rangers demolished Motherwell 6-0 in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday.
The Ibrox rout saw the Gers move to within two points of Celtic at the top of the division as Steven Naismith scored early on, Motherwell’s Shaun Hutchinson put in an own goal and David Healy finished things off with his first Gers goal.
Just five minutes had elapsed when Rangers began their scoring spree. Vladimir Weiss - a star on the day - played a one-two with Jelavic before picking Naismith out with a fine cross, the Scotland international turning the ball home from close range.
Jelavic shot wide soon after and John Sutton headed over for the visitors, but the 24th minute saw Motherwell already facing a mountain they would not climb even an inch.
Steven Whittaker collected the ball on the right from on-loan Arsenal man Kyle Bartley and then squared for Jelavic to grab his first.
His second followed almost immediately when he flicked home another Weiss cross, the half-time whistle seeing Rangers 3-0 up, though they did lose Naismith to injury.
Jelavic missed hat-trick chances either side of the half and it turned out to be a Motherwell man who would score Rangers’ fourth. Sub John Fleck was aiming to pick out Jelavic with his cross, but Hutchinson came thundering in, only to succeed in beating his own goalkeeper.
Jelavic finally did make it three for himself though, and 5-0 overall, when he was first to a knock-down from Sasa Papac and tucked the ball under Darren Randolph and over the line.
Madjid Bougherra then crossed for sub Healy to turn in the last goal of the day.
