Tehoue a new one on Wenger

by JP Lonergan , 20 February 2011

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had never heard of the player who has forced his side into an FA Cup fifth round replay with Leyton Orient.

Jonathan Tehoue struck late in Sunday’s game at Brisbane Road to earn League One Orient a 1-1 draw with the club who, only four days earlier, had beaten the Barcelona side described by most as the best in the world.

Tomas Rosicky had headed Wenger’s side into the lead much earlier in the second half, but they must now welcome Orient to the Emirates, one that the Frenchman admits he can begrudge them, given their efforts on Sunday.

“Leyton Orient played a great game and we couldn't finish them off,” Wenger was quoted as saying by the East London and West Essex Guardian..

“I've never heard of him before. Maybe they had a plan to defend from up front and they went to a new shape when he came on.

“They had a chance before that and they looked always dangerous in the final third. They focused well and it shows the lower division has improved physically and tactically.

“Fighting spirit has a chance in these games against technical superiority. The players are very disappointed. We are still in the competition and play them at home.

“This was a game which was frustrating. You have to give credit to Orient, they took advantage.

“They kept their shape and fought very hard. Leyton Orient played a great game and we couldn't finish them off.

“We have problems finishing off lower league teams, but we play a lot and we give a lot.”

The Gunners have already been taken to a replay by Championship Leeds United in the competition, while they needed a late penalty to defeat Huddersfield Town in the last 32.

If they do get past Leyton Orient in the Emirates replay, they then face a step up in class in Cup opposition with Manchester United awaiting the winners in the quarter-finals.
