Vieira brace sparks City rout

by Tony Cuddihy , 20 February 2011

Patrick Vieira grabbed a brace as Manchester City beat Notts County 5-0 in their FA Cup fourth round replay on Sunday.

City will now face Aston Villa for the right to take on Everton or Reading in the quarter-finals.

City's expensively assembled strike-force of Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli struggled against the League One minnows, so it was left to the free transfer from Inter Milan to boost Roberto Mancini's side.

County started off the brightest, with Alan Gow and Karl Hawley both going close to breaking the deadlock for Paul Ince's men.

Aleksandar Kolarov's strong shot almost troubled Stuart Nelson in the County goal, before Vieira made it 1-0 by heading in David Silva's corner.

Ten minutes inside the second half, Vieira had his second. The Frenchman grabbed another header, this time a powerful effort from a Kolarov cross.

Mancini brought on Tevez for Balotelli with half an hour left and it wasn't long before his influence told.

The Argentine striker saw his shot from distance saved by Nelson, before he made it 3-0.

Tevez was played in well by Dzeko, before sprinting through the County defence, around Nelson and squeezing the ball home.

Dzeko added his name to the scoresheet with a close range header, before Micah Richards put the gloss on the scoreline by slamming home from a poor clearance.
