Flower targets batting progress

by Setanta Staff , 21 January 2012

England coach Andy Flower has admitted his side were disappointing against Pakistan but will be looking for improvements next week.

Flower saw his players collapse to a 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Pakistan, as England's batting order failed to cope with the Asian team's bowling attack and the conditions in Dubai.

England do not have to wait long to put things right as they prepare for the second Test of the three-game series on Wednesday, with the next encounter taking place in Abu Dhabi.

Flower believes that his side's performance in the first Test was poor but is confident that the issues in the batting order can be resolved before the next match.

"We all know that it was the batting that let us down in this Test, but our batsmen have a pretty good record against spin, so I don't think it's a matter of reinventing the wheel," he said.

"Of course, we will try to learn from it, but they all have their individual strengths, and they have to focus on those - and most of our batsmen will recognise that they under-performed for various reasons in this Test match."
