Rodgers' glee at loan star's quality

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has hailed the virtues of new midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson following his loan move from Hoffenheim.

Rodgers handed the Icelandic international his full debut on Saturday in his side's 2-0 defeat at Sunderland, and despite the result the Ulsterman was pleased with the efforts of the former Reading man.

Sigurdsson was eased into the reckoning by the Swans boss after appearing from the bench in the 3-2 win over Arsenal but it didn't take long for the 22-year-old to demonstrate the qualities that the manager knew he had over Arsenal.

The midfielder's pass created the winning goal for Danny Graham against the Gunners, and his creativity and eye for a goal was again evident at the Stadium of Light.

Rodgers, who worked previously with Sigurdsson at Reading, said: "Gylfi has been excellent. I know him well, and he's just finding his feet and getting back up to speed.

"He hadn't played a lot of games before arriving. But you can see his qualities - he fits in perfectly.

"That's the type of player we want to bring in here - players that technically are gifted and tactically understand the game."
